We have our Biminis made by an upholsterer locally in Wales. These are made to a high standard in order to cope with the rigours and harsh conditions imposed by the sun and sea. The fabric is a Kayospruce marine fabric from the Sauleda range in non-proofed acrylic, in the colour of Taupe.
As you can see from the first picture below, the quality of both the fabric and the manufacture is clearly evident in this photograph. This Bimini was brought back from the Ionian last November to act as a template for my new upholsterer to make a definitive set of patterns. This Bimini was made in 2017, taken out for that summer and has been used almost on a daily basis since that time.
Would you believe it! The new Bimini to its left, just made, shows little difference in colour of both fabrics and there is no deterioration in the stitching or damage. This in itself illustrates its ‘fitness for purpose’. Yes, some might say a little expensive for a sun shade, but I make no excuses; they are the best in terms of fabric and outstanding manufacture.
The second picture shows part of a batch of 12 made. One leaves next week for Henry out in Bahrain whose Longboat is being rebuilt with our Just Lugger Joinery parts. Another consignment will be taken with me on my drive out in late April for Lugger and Longboat owners on Corfu and Paxos, leaving a stock at our Wales base at NP22 4LA
Picture 3 shows the incredible detail Karen my upholsterer goes into, and the skill she uses to make the small pockets that hold the 2 carbon fibre fore and aft strengthening edges to give the Bimini its shape.
£185 for Lugger
£200 for Longboat
