No Lugger is complete without one of our specially designed and made ladders. The design and manufacture has been proven over the past 10 years on our charter fleet dragondrascombe.com. Totally bomb proof!
All the component parts are made of Iroko; its inherent robustness and oily grain make it extremely suitable for the marine environment, and it needs no varnish or oil finish – something which would soon wear away.
The ladder is of a totally articulated construction. Treads are loose to slide and move without creating strain on the joints, and are held to form its frame shape by dowels and pegs, all easy to replace.
The Gunwale rail hooks and knees are in aluminium with marine grade machine screws and fittings. It even has neoprene buffer strips to protect the paint and gel coat. So when hooked onto the Gunwale rail of the Lugger, it hangs, allowing the knees with their protective pads to contact with the hull, giving it the rigidity needed to support the person stepping onto the first tread.
There is also a security line fitted to the head of the ladder. If there is a swell and the floatation capability of the ladder is such to lift it off the Gunwale rail, it will not float away!
