All our timber is sourced from accredited replanting programmes and not illegal logging areas.
For all our cockpit floor sections we use Unsorted joinery-grade Redwood of PEFC3 certification.
For the Lazarette floor we use Okoume Throughout Marine Plywood BS 1008:2003, 12 mm thickness.
For our Spars, Mizzen mast, Gaff and Bumpkin we use Canadian 2&3 clear and better, S/E kiln dried 70% certified Douglas Fir.
In terms of the substantial joinery pieces on Drascombes our material of choice is Iroko. This is African FAS S/E kiln dried, verified from a sustainable source. Beware of companies selling joinery made from Burmese Teak as Burma (or Myanmar as it is now called) has export and import bans on its trade. The use of Teak has declined over the years due to deforestation and illegal logging.
There is a small quantity of American White Ash used in our laminated tillers and forward buoyancy deck cap.
For wood and machine screws we generally source brass, with an element composition of copper 88% and zinc 12%. If available and cost permitting we can supply Bronze, copper 88% and tin 12%.
We can source high quality bronze castings to complement our joinery, which we do in the case our laminated tillers.
Our stainless steel fittings are all A4 marine grade or 316 polished.
All of these are high grade materials, well suited to use in salt water and sunlight.
